We ship live animals via USPS Priority Live Animals, so please be sure all of your contact information is correct when placing order, as the Post Office will contact you when your chicks arrive to pick up at your post office.
 
Light Brahma Day Old ChicksLight Brahma Chickens were introduced to the United States in the mid 19th century from China and imported to England in 1840. The American Poultry fanciers refined the original stock into a large stately breed. They make a good dual-purpose breed and though they may only lay 3-5 brown eggs a week, they are known for good winter production. Brahmas do good in confinement but even better if they have access to an outdoor run. They are mellow, quite hardy, have feathered feet, and make good pets. They thrive in northern climates.
Light Brahma's are slower to mature and may begin laying or be ready for processing at 24+ weeks. They start laying eggs at about 7-8 months of age. 
Average mature weight: roosters 12 lbs., hens 9 1/2 lbs.

    What is special about Brahma chicken?

    Brahma chickens are known for their large size, calm temperament, and egg-laying abilities. They are also known for their unusual appearance, with feathered feet and legs that make them look like they're wearing trousers. 

    Size: 

    • Mature roosters can weigh up to 18 pounds and hens can weigh up to 12 pounds.
    • Roosters can grow to a height of 30 inches and hens can grow to a height of 26 inches.

    Temperament:

    • Brahma chickens are calm, docile, and not aggressive with other breeds. 
    • They are friendly and gentle, making them a good choice for families with children. 

    Dual Purpose: Brahmas make great dual purpose chickens because of their size, they are great layers and make great meat birds.  Perfect for any size homestead

    Egg production: 

    • Brahma chickens are good egg-layers for their size, producing up to 200 large, medium-brown eggs per year.

    Climate:

    • Brahma chickens thrive best on dry, well-drained soils and in moist, cool climates. 
    • They are ideal for cold climates, thanks to their thick layer of down and pea comb, which protects them from frostbite. 

    Origin: 

    • Brahma chickens are believed to have originated in China and were developed in America from very large fowls imported from China.

    Other characteristics:

    • They have feathered feet and legs that make them look like they're wearing trousers. 
    • They are fairly quiet compared to other breeds.

    No returns. As we are dealing with live animals that are perishable in nature, as well as for biosecurity reasons, there are no return options available for any reason. We do offer the following policies on your order.

    Day Old Poultry Livability

    As chicks hatch they absorb the balance of the yolk, and this sustains them for several days with no need for food or water, please plan your order around a time you KNOW you will be availble to pick the package up at your post office.  Be prepared for your chicks with proper space, heat, food, water, grit and any supplements or medications you wish to give them upon arrival.

    We DO NOT vaccinate any of our animals and our livestock are all fully on pasture other than our specialty birds.  Our Brahamas have a large heated & cooled barn all to themselves and their eggs go directly into the incubators daily 

    Because of their size, they are slow growers, they will not lay eggs until approximately 8 months of age, and reach full size at 24 months.

    Other breeds may pick at their feathered feet, so please keep an eye on your birds as they grow if they are around other breeds.

    Despite their size, they are very calm and quiet birds

    What happens with USPS when chicks leave our hands is out of our control. This includes any delay.  USPS PRIORITY MAIL EXPRESS shipping is USPS 1-3 day priority with $200 Insurance. If you have a damaged package, please take pictues of any damage and check the packaging as soon as you pickup. You will have to file a claim with USPS online:

    When purchasing day old chicks you are accepting that they are a gamble and we do no guarantee your package will be handled appropriately by USPS even though we go through an exhaustive process to ship them, nor how USPS will handle/deliver your chicks.

    If for some reason beyond our control that we cannot fill your order, you will be issued a refund. Please email us tanya@hobbithoggit.com if you have any questions or concerns with ordering.

    Standard Shipping is USPS Priority Express 1-3 days with $200 insurance included. This is just an estimated time of arrival and not a guarantee. USPS covers damage not a delay. Once the post office takes your chicks from us, it is out of our hands. We do our best to provide you live chicks pagaged appropriately. If you box is damaged please document with a worker at pick and file a claim with USPS online. 

    We will request for the PO to hold your pakage so please leave your phone number for USPS to contact you for pickup. This is also not a guarantee unless you provide the correct info when ordering. We will package and label each box to the best of our ability to ensure safety of your chicks. All claims will need to be filed online and all tracking information will be emailed to you as soon as it is shipped.
